Get New Teeth in One Day
Missing teeth can impact every area of your life, from eating challenges to social awkwardness. Fortunately, the modern solution to missing teeth goes beyond bridges and dentures. Today, dental implants are a popular alternative—and for good reason. Dental implants look, feel, and function the same as natural teeth, with the added benefit of strengthening your jawbone. And what’s more, you can get them in a single day.
In the past, patients who opted for dental implants had to wait as long as months between installation of the implant and attachment of the prosthetic tooth crown. This made eating and socializing difficult, to say the least. But technological advances have made it possible for you to get dental implants in a single visit!

How do dental implants work?
Dental implants replicate natural teeth, from a lifelike crown down to a strong root base. Titanium posts that resemble screws are installed underneath the gum line, where they fuse to the bone in a process called osseointegration. A prosthetic crown is then attached to the post with an abutment, which allows for a quick and easy crown replacement if a crown is damaged. Once healed, the implant will function like a real tooth, requiring few if any restrictions on what you can eat.
How do same-day dental implants differ from traditional implants?
The main difference between same-day dental implants and traditional dental implants is the time delay before installing the abutments and the crowns. Traditional implants require you to wait for months while the implants integrate into your natural bone structure before you can return to the dentist for placement of the abutments and crowns. Same-day dental implants eliminate both the wait-time and the need for multiple visits.
You may have heard same-day implants referred to as “immediate load” implants. This is just another way of saying the dentist will attach a temporary crown immediately after the dental implant is inserted below the gum line. Once your jawbone heals and fuses with the implant, a permanent crown will replace the temporary crown. But in the meantime, you can still eat normally and brush the temporary crown to keep it clean.
What are All-On-4 dental implants?
All-On-4 dental implants are a type of same-day dental implants, but instead of replacing one missing tooth, All-On-4 implants replace an entire arch of teeth (upper or lower). The All-On-4 procedure gets its name from the fact that the entire arch of prosthetic teeth is attached with only four implants in the jawbone, instead of one implant per tooth. Like single-tooth same-day implants, the All-On-4 procedure includes a temporary prosthesis, which will be replaced with a permanent arch later.
What happens during the same-day implant procedure?
The first step to getting same-day dental implants is a consultation with the dentist to determine if you’re a good candidate. During this visit, the dentist will perform diagnostic tests such as X-rays, photographs of your mouth, and CT scans to prepare a specific plan. On the day of the surgery, you will receive either general or local anesthesia before the dental surgeon inserts the dental implant post into the jawbone. Afterward, the temporary crown will be attached and you’ll wake up, groggy but with a full set of teeth.
Who is a candidate for same-day dental implants?
While a bright new smile can improve anyone’s life, not all dental patients are candidates for same-day dental implants. Both your oral health and overall health must be in good condition. People with an autoimmune disease or certain chronic diseases, and people who smoke or grind their teeth are not good candidates for same-day dental implants. The best candidates already have strong bones and healthy teeth, but even if you’re a good candidate on paper, you still must be committed to maintaining a high level of oral health to ensure your implants don’t fail.
